Statement
Nature’s breathtaking beauty is a constant source of inspiration for my creative endeavors, the not-so-obvious beauty-like the craggy remains of a breakwater or the rusted metal supports of an old pier-as well as the traditionally beautiful. The awe and tenacity of nature speak to me spiritually. Through my paintings, I seek to convey nature’s majesty and resolve in order for us to understand and form a relationship.
My current series focuses on the remnants of structures—such as breakwaters, piers, and forgotten debris—left to decay in water. These once-functional objects, now neglected, are gradually worn down by the persistent forces of nature. Through these pieces, I seek to capture a moment in the process where nature’s influence is visible, yet the man-made form still lingers.
There is beauty in this gradual breakdown, a testament to nature’s resolve. The rusted metal, weathered wood, and eroding stone stand as metaphors for time’s passage and nature’s enduring spirit. In these works, I aim to convey not just the visible decay but the quiet, determined way nature fights back, transforming what was once discarded into something new.
Through texture, color, and form, I hope to invite viewers to reflect on our relationship with nature—how we leave our mark, and how nature, in turn, reclaims what we no longer need. This dialogue between the human-made and the natural world reminds us of the majesty and resilience of the earth, capable of enduring and evolving, long after we’ve moved on.
