Marie Magnetic

Marie Magnetic is a Chicago-based creative. She is inspired by her identity as a queer, Jewish, Indigenous, and neurodivergent woman while examining dystopia, delight, and delusion in society. Growing up in a small town in southwestern Michigan helped to shape Marie's values as she witnessed friends and family suffer from addiction, mental health issues, and poverty. Her artwork reflects the experiences of being othered, whether as a woman in a patriarchal society, an ethnic minority, or someone with a disability. Additionally, she is influenced by dada and surrealism; working to create a sense of investigation for the viewer. Art is experimental for Marie- she uses painting, collage, and mixed media to delve into a world where familiarity and the unknown merge.

Marie has exhibited in group shows at the Chicago Fine Art Salon, Woman Made Gallery, Fulton Street Collective, and a solo exhibit at Little Broken Things Hair Salon. Recently, she was the recipient of a Merit award from Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery and an artist grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts.Marie received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Central Michigan University and is currently working on a BFA at DePaul University. Marie hopes she may teach her viewers to think about the world differently, challenge societal norms, and inspire a greater social consciousness.
